MIDDLEMAN release their debut
album Spinning Plates on May
1st through Blip Records/ Universal Distribution
Originally from the Midlands, the band self-produced
the album in their adopted town of Leeds. It reflects a time in which they
found themselves completely overwhelmed trying to juggle day jobs, fighting bad
management and trying to keep control of their own music. Off the back of this
experience Middleman have found themselves stronger, leaner and almost thankful
they took the long way round to get here. 2011 sees the release of a record
that they are immensely, and rightly, proud of.
Middleman had early acclaim from the likes of Alan
Raw at BBC Introducing and Radio 1’s Huw Stephens (”Middleman make bouncy, vibrant, ridiculously catchy tunes that stand
out a mile”). Several ‘Ones To Watch’ pieces were celebrated but it was
soon after this time the band had to work furiously to keep their heads above
water. Things thankfully improved steadily throughout 2010. The band were
invited to play at Reading & Leeds Festivals and also headed over to SXSW
in Texas, an adventure that helped springboard the writing and recording
process with a renewed vigor.
The album is an honest, unflinching take on their
journey as a band. Without filtering or sugar-coating anything they have
extracted an energy from this experience that has to be heard.
The
debut Album features the singles It’s Not Over Yet and Chipping
Away which have both received support from BBC Radio 1, play listing + a John Kennedy session at XFM, Kerrang
Radio, BBC Introducing, BBC Raw Talent, Sub TV and an NME Radar TV play list.
It’s
Not Over Yet has also opened up some interesting opportunities since
being synced to the NBA 2K11 computer game alongside Snoop Dogg and Two Door
Cinema Club. The album track Clipped Wings has been synced to the
trailer for the new series of The Gadget
Show on Channel 5 and other
sync’s include E4 Music and SKY TV.
