Das Hund are pleased to present their debut vinyl album For Freedom, released on new artist-run record label French Riviera Records in a limited pressing of 300 copies. Das Hund are visual artists and musicians Samuel Levack and Jennifer Lewandowski. Thier expanded multi-disciplinary practice includes music, film, performance, poetry and installation.
For Freedom includes ten original tracks of poetry and songs, accompanied by guitars, bass, keyboards, drones and looped drumbeats, remixed to hypnotic effect using analogue tape delays. It features extensive contributions from musicians Euan Hinshelwood (Younghusband), Bryan Michael Mills (The Kittens), Nicholas Pankhurst (The Cups), Fancy Smith (Art Brut) and Serafina Steer (Bas Jan).
For Freedom presents a visionary exploration of our contemporary world, exploring concerns about the place of the artist in a late capitalist society which increasingly seeks to commodify creativity. Spanning a four-year period (2015-18) in which the artists travelled across the UK & USA, filming the urban landscapes of London and Los Angeles and the deserts of Colorado and California, it is a poetic reflection on the current global political turmoil and a reimagination of radical counterculture ideas that are returning to the popular imagination.
