York based band Bull have made a lot of new friends over the last twelve months around the release of their fab debut record 'Discover Effortless Living'.

“That’s really good, I really like that” – Elton John

After smashing it at their album launch in the Brudenell a year ago, Bull have a new run of local new dates, opening for Jeffrey Lewis & The Voltage at The Lending Room in September, opening for the mighty Pavement at Leeds Academy in October and now this headline show in Wharf Chambers on Thursday 10th November.

Formed in 2011 by vocalist and songwriter Tom Beer and guitarist Dan Lucas, Bull’s mission is simply to make the music they wanted to listen to, inspired by their heroes, from the Modern Lovers and Pavement to the Kinks and the Pixies.

The rest of the band came together through a mix of friendships and happenstance. Drummer Tom Gabbatiss joined after he and Tom jammed together in bars while they were back-packing round Thailand, and Kai West joined on bass having played with York cult heroes the Littlemores. More recently Tom’s sister Holly Beer has joined them on keys and vocals, taking lead vocal on the track Magazine on the band's latest EP, and adding a new dimension to the band’s trademark indie racket.

An exercise in eclecticism, ‘Stuck between the Virtual and Physical World’ is made up of 4 tracks that find the band experimenting in new genres. “The EP is split between two kinds of music, but it’s still very much BULL" Tom continues. “It’s newish territory for us as a band, we were inspired by more time in lockdown and more time in the studio to mess around. This resulted in a sort of post punk sound on ‘Stuck!’ and ‘Tired of being treated like a Twit’, and the dreamy synth rock on ‘Neil Buchanan’ and ‘Magazine’. But as ever with us – the songs are what we’re about.”

The EP is the first new material since they released their critically acclaimed debut album ‘Discover Effortless Living’ in 2021.

On the airwaves, the band have received support from Chris Hawkins and Steve Lamacq at 6Music, Huw Stephens at BBC Introducing and Clara Amfo, as well as being acclaimed by fellow musicians like Declan McKenna and Elton John on his Beats 1 show
