Bill Henderson may not have been a household name among jazz singers, but this 1963 release raises a valid point that maybe he should have been. Of course, taking on this mix of standards with the Oscar Peterson Trio – including Ed Thigpen (drums) and Ray Brown (bass), certainly could make a lesser talent look better. But Henderson matches the group’s ability and elevates classics like “All or Nothing At All,” and “You Are My Sunshine” with his own point of view. This Verve By Request title is pressed on 180-gram vinyl at Third Man in Detroit
