Recently sold out two nights at Village Underground in October 2021, previously played Coachella, & supported Bonobo on tour. After three EP’s and three albums, Inside Out marks ten years of releasing music as Tourist.

“Inside Out” is an album I had never envisaged I would write. It is a dance album about death, and perhaps more importantly - life.

In April 2020, I lost one of my closest friends very suddenly. It was also the month I found out I was going to have a daughter. All of this was set against the backdrop of a once in a lifetime global pandemic, so I found myself in the midst of deep personal grief, a collective sense of grief for others and at the same time the joy and gravity of knowing I was going to be a father for the first time.

During this strange time, I found that writing music became a constant source of comfort and stability for me. I found that what flowed out was my attempt to connect with the people in my life I was otherwise unable to be near.

My impulsion was not to write introverted and solemn music, but instead I found myself trying to write music that brought me joy. At a time when I had no connection to others, I was trying to create a better connection with myself. I found that what I wrote was visceral, direct and uptempo. Those three things became the North Star for this record. I wanted to write a record that celebrated the things that I learnt from Christian. The ephemerality of everything, the preciousness of each moment and most importantly the true importance of other people.

Even if people don’t fully appreciate the circumstances under which this record was written, hopefully the music serves to uplift and move them.
