February 7th, 2025: Unbelievable Truth have announced their new EP ‘Citizens Band’, available March 21st through Noosphere Records distributed by Believe Music. The EP’s title track, the cherished Oxford band’s first new material for 25 years, is available to stream.

Before splitting in 2000, Unbelievable Truth released two critically acclaimed albums, 1998’s Almost Here’ (Virgin) - which reached No.11 in the album charts and contained two Top 40 singles - and the follow-up ‘Sorrythankyou’ (Shifty Disco), developing a passionate fan base both at home and abroad, particularly in Japan. In 2023, vocalist/guitarist Andy Yorke, bassist Jason Moulster and drummer Nigel Powell reunited for some gigs to celebrate the 25th anniversary of ‘Almost Here’, and following these shows the band began writing music together again.

“Getting together again has felt really, really good and also quite therapeutic,” comments Yorke. “It’s been a long time, and – for me, at least – there are aspects of what happened with the band before that didn’t feel great. So going back to it and rediscovering the real joy of what it’s all about – which is getting into a room with Nigel and Jas and making music – has been really lovely. It feels a bit like closure on some stuff that’s been nagging at me ever since I left the band.” A plea for community and solidarity among friends, ‘Citizens Band’ sounds as if Unbelievable Truth picked up from where they left off two and a half decades ago while adding all their extra experience and insight. “I was thinking about insomniacs like myself, awake in the middle of the night feeling out of kilter with the rest of the world,” explains Yorke about the song’s creation. “And how there are actually lots of people like that scattered across the world, not just insomniacs but misfits of all kinds, feeling isolated and wondering what’s wrong with them. And I was remembering the old CB radio and how that enabled people to connect across the airwaves and feel like a part of a new community. Then the internet came along and did the same thing, but better, until it became the nightmarish thing it is now. In these increasingly dangerous times, it feels like we need a way toget back to that sense of community.”

“Citizens Band came together very quickly in the basement at Andy’s house,” adds Powell. “He had just gone upstairs to serve dinner, and I was noodling on the piano for five minutes before eating. By the time I went up I had the two parts written, and after dinner the three of us gave it some structure. A couple of days later Andy emailed over a ‘how’s this?’ recording of his idea for the melody and lyrics which were perfect and didn’t need changing at all. It feels like a song that has this kind of heft should have taken more work to create.”
